SPYROS PAN IN DAIOS COVE IN AGIOS NIKOLAOS, CRETE

Spyros Pan discovered the Handpan in September 2007. His musical portfolio includes four personal albums – compositions for solo Hang alongside an appearance in the soundtrack of the movie “Man at Sea” by director K. Giannaris. He has performed on musical stages and festivals in Greece and abroad. Since 2014 he has worked as a tuner for Pantheon Steel, a US based company that manufactures high quality Handpans.

The Story of the Handpan

In the year 2000 two artisan instrument makers from Bern, Switzerland presented the musical community with a new and revolutionary instrument which they called the ‘Hang’. The success of the instrument was instant and the demand skyrocketed. Almost 20 years on, there are at least 100 different artisan makers who produce their own version of the Hang. Every maker names their creation differently hence the need arose for a word that describes the family of these instrument. Hence the word ‘Handpan’.
