TRIO DAULUTE AT DAIOS COVE CRETE
Daulute is a world music trio from Crete that brings a fresh, dynamic approach to the interpretation of Greek traditional music. Formed by three musicians—George Zacharioudakis, Dimitris Sideris, and John Papatzanis—the group is rooted in the rich musical heritage of Crete while embracing a spirit of innovation and experimentation. George Zacharioudakis performs on the Cretan lyra and revives rare traditional wind instruments such as the thiampoli and mandoura. He also integrates flutes from various global traditions—including the Indian bansuri, Celtic whistles, and the Western concert flute—into the Greek musical language. Dimitris Sideris focuses on the Cretan laouto, expanding its technique by drawing from related string instruments. John Papatzanis enhances the capabilities of the Cretan daouli, while also incorporating frame drums like the bendir and ceramic vessel percussion such as the stamna. Daulute’s music is characterized by improvisation, rhythmic exploration, and a deep respect for tradition. While their foundation lies in the Cretan repertoire, their performances explore a broader Greek musical landscape and incorporate global influences. The trio has performed in a variety of contexts, from local festivals to major concert venues in Greece and internationally, offering audiences a uniquely vibrant musical experience.
